Ep59 - Joanne Renner is an oil and pastel painter from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Joann’s work is largely expressionist. Joann received degrees in both studio art and art history in the 80s, a time when it was very difficult to break into the art world, especially as a female artist. Because there was no internet, making connections with other artists was very difficult. Even though she truly felt that becoming a fine artist was her calling, Joann decided to set aside her aspirations to raise a family and care for her aging mother, but she never lost sight of her vision.
In recent years Joann has refocused her efforts toward her art business, and she is encouraged by the realization that artists are supporting one another, male and female. She has personally found a very supportive community of artists, not only in her local area but in the online space as well. Joann gravitates toward art with a cause or message, and she is learning to utilize the collective power of the artist community to help grow her business.
